  • Conanicut Island Land Trust - The Conanicut Island Land Trust was formed in 1984 and is incorporated as a private, not-for-profit, tax exempt organization. The Trust is dedicated to preserving the island's natural resources and open spaces for the benefit of the entire community, and currently owns, or has stewardship over four hundred acres of property on the island. Education of the public on conservation and preservation issues is also a major objective for the Land Trust. Associated with the Trust is The Jamestown Community Farm, which cultivates approximately three acres of donated land to grow fresh vegetables for the Rhode Island Food Bank, food kitchens and shelters.

  • Jamestown and Newport RI History - A brief history of Jamestown and environs. Formation of Narragansett Bay by glacial action, Native Americans, Colonists, changes to way of life over time. Provides links to more detailed information.
  • Jamestown Historical Cemetaries - List of cemetaries on Conanicut Island dating from 1675. The DAR recorded some of the Jamestown cemeteries in 1941. Benjamin F. Wilbour and Waldo C. Sprague recorded 3 complete and 2 partial cemeteries in 1954. Phase II has been complete on the Town Cemetery, the Quaker Burial Ground and three smaller cemeteries. 10 cemeteries have been registered with 15 thought to exist. There are some cemeteries on the north end of the island that we have not found yet. Of the 1,000 marked graves, 710 have been entered in the database. Jamestown is 71% complete.
